The Institute for Emotionally Focused Therapy offers courses and workshops as ‘stand-alone’ subjects for continuing professional development for health practitioners. Some of the courses and workshops are aligned with the Medicate requirements for focused psychological work.
An Emotion-Focused approach is an evidence-based approach that demonstrates excellent research outcomes in working with emotional experience with individuals and couples. At the Institute we have developed assessment and treatment protocols for working in the individual and couple field that harness the technical craft of counselling and therapy, without losing the essence of the artistry that is required in our clinical work.
Meeting your professional development requirements
Psychologists Board Australia (PBA) & Australian Psychological Society (APS)
The courses and workshops scheduled by the Institute provide active continuing professional development hours for generalist, counselling and clinical psychologists. Successful completion of a 2-day workshop is 12 active CPD hours for generalist, counselling and clinical psychologists.
Australian Association of Social Work (AASW)
The AASW counts each hour of training as a point toward the category of Skills and Knowledge. Most workshops do not count toward the FPS and Mental Health categories although some will. Course reading can also be included as points for the Skills and Knowledge area of CPD with the AASW website automatically calculating the points.
Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)
Counsellors and therapists who belong to PACFA are currently eligible for 1 PD point per 1 hour of attendance.
Australian Counselling Association (ACA)
Students doing the Institute’s postgraduate program will receive 7 PD points per semester. For ACA practitioners looking for ongoing professional development, the points system will differ depending on our workshops, e.g. 2 points per hour for an ACA endorsed workshop and 4 points per day if not ACA endorsed.
