At IEFT, our commitment is to grow the skills and practice of health and allied health practitioners in Emotionally Focused psychological work. In keeping with our emphasis on therapeutic excellence, we have engaged internationally recognised practitioners and academic teaching staff to support the practitioners who study with us. Students can expect:
- IEFT academic teaching staff to be practicing clinicians
- Processes and methodologies taught to be rigorously evidence-based and academically reviewed
- To be exposed to the very latest in thinking within the field and to review practice-based case studies
- To be guided to develop their capacities as competent service providers and to make informed decisions

- To undertake courses that integrate their learning and provide not only theory, but also practical application to put learning into practice
We want students to feel fully supported in their study at IEFT and offer:

Our educational philosophy
Staff members at the Institute believe there are universal components in human development, ways of being with oneself and in relationships, which provide the foundation for counselling and therapy practice. These components are integral to the courses offered at the Institute, whereby a safe, respectful and nurturing learning environment is created. IEFT academic teaching staff work as a cohesive team to delivery quality teaching and supervision.
Staff and students:

- Have the basic right of all human beings to be loved and acknowledged, and to feel good about themselves
Assessment tasks and marking criteria are aligned with the learning outcomes for each subject, and are clearly outlined in subject materials. Student assessments in all subjects are graded as Non-graded Pass, Result Pending, or Non-graded Fail. Students will receive clear feedback on their performance against assessment marking criteria, and how to improve in future assessment tasks.
In 2016, IEFT undertook comparative benchmarking with Excelsia College, a similar higher education provider to IEFT. The reviewer examined convergences and divergences between the structure, admission, duration, hours of supervision and practice, and content of IEFT and Excelsia postgraduate counselling courses. The reviewer found IEFT course documentation to be clear, coherent, readily available to students, and comparable to Excelsia course materials.
Access and equity
IEFT is committed to ensuring students from all cultural and linguistic backgrounds have access to the opportunity to grow their practice in Emotionally Focused counselling and therapy. Prospective students are welcome to discuss any special needs or learning requirements with IEFT before applying.
